How to play Keno
These instructions only really apply
in a real-world game of Keno. In an online game, it
is even easier, with a series of simple point and click
actions achieving the same effect automatically.
The game number is indicated at the bottom of the keno
board and its status can be determined by the how many
different numbers are lit on the keno board. If less
than 20 are lit, the game is in progress and you cannot
joint. If all 20 are lit, the game is finished and this
is the time for you to join. If all lights are out,
then the game is already underway and it is too late
for you to join in.
1. Take a Keno blank, and mark the numbers you wish
to play with the marker that the casino provides.
2. Total the amount of numbers you have marked. There
must be at least 1 and no more than 15 numbers selected.
Write out the amount you have selected in the left hand
margin of the ticket.
3. Now decide how much you wish to bet and write this
figure in the top right hand corner of the ticket. This
part of the ticket may well be labelled with “Mark
price here” or something similar.
4. Give the ticket either to the runner or the Keno
writer. After you have paid the necessary amount to
play the ticket, you will be given a duplicate.
5. Verify you have marked your ticket correctly. If
there is any dispute, the original ticket you have marked
predominates.
6. Watch the board to see if your numbers have been
drawn. If you win you must collect your winnings before
the next game is called (unless you are playing more
than 21 games at a time). This rather unfortunate rule
is in place to prevent keno from being classed as a
lottery, where winners have a much longer period of
time to collect their winnings.
7. If in doubt about your win, check the punch out
ticket or have the runner do it for you.
8. Never fold or mutilate your ticket in any way. It
is a valuable commodity, especially if it is a winner.
